Los Angeles Wants to Develop San Pedro Waterfront Into Bustling Tourist Neighborhood

The Los Angeles waterfront in San Pedro is very slowly being made over into a more neighborhoody place, with a big new public plaza already arrived and the $500-million AltaSea marine research center and redevelopment of the Ports O’ Call Village shopping center both on the horizon. Now LA actually wants to make the area into a neighborhood—the city’s Harbor Department and Economic Workforce and Development Department are commissioning a study to look into publicly owned sites nearby that might be good for development as hotels, resorts, and a range of housing both for sale (single-family houses, condos, townhouses) and for rent that would serve a mix of incomes from high to low, says Urbanize LA.
